Eddie Ratcliffe set to appeal against sentence for Brianna Ghey murder next week

Eddie Ratcliffe, one of Brianna Ghey’s killers, will appeal against his sentence next week.

The 16-year-old was jailed for life, to serve a minimum of 20 years after he was unanimously convicted of the transgender teen’s murder. Ratcliffe was found guilty alongside his friend Scarlett Jenkinson.

The pair, both 16, had plotted 16-year-old Brianna's murder for weeks. The duo had a warped interest in death and torture, and had been plotting to kill other children. Brianna was lured to her death at Culcheth Linear Park near Warrington on February 11, 2023.

She was mercilessly stabbed 28 times during a horrendous attack. Jenkinson and Ratcliffe were both sentenced in February this year. They were both detained at His Majesty's Pleasure, the equivalent of a life sentence for a youth. Jenkinson was ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years, while Ratcliffe was handed a 20 year minimum term.

In March, the M.E.N. reported that Radcliffe, from Leigh, had lodged an appeal against his punishment. His case has now been scheduled to be heard at the Court of Appeal in London on Thursday. (December 5) The court previously said there was no record of an appeal made on behalf of Jenkinson.

During February’s hearing, sentencing judge Mrs Justice Yip said the pair would only be released if the Parole Board decided that they 'no longer pose a danger'. Jenkinson, from Culcheth, and Ratcliffe had known each other since the age of 11, attending Culcheth High School together.
