Eddie Howe's welcome selection headache on Bruno Guimaraes while Dan Burn stands by for debut

Eddie Howe is pondering whether to hand Dan Burn a debut for Newcastle United against Aston Villa - at left-back.

The £13million man came in on deadline day from Brighton & Hove Albion but was an unused sub in the superb 3-1 victory over Everton at St James' Park on Tuesday night.

Burn is eager to make his Toon bow but Howe also stated that Javier Manquillo is also in the mix.

Speaking at his Press conference today, Howe said: "Dan Burn is an option for us and it's great that I've got a couple of options in that position.

"Manquillo has done really well at left-back - he came on against Leeds and made a huge impact."

Howe said that Kieran Trippier will be touch and go for the game against Steven Gerrard's side but revealed he had no other fresh injury problems.

He said: "Apart from Kieran, we have no fresh injury concerns.

"Paul Dummett is getting closer and Fede Fernández is making good progress but still hasn't trained with the group."

The other big question for Howe is whether he starts with new boy Bruno Guimarães.

He said: "He's ready to play.

"He's shown all the technical qualities that we love about him in training already but it's a case of managing the group and making sure I make the right selections.

"I thought the midfield balance against Everton was really good."

Indeed, Howe is facing a welcome selection headache against Villa with Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and Joelinton all having excellent games against Everton in a midfield three.

But the Brazil international adds star quality to the engine room.
