Eddie Howe reflects on Ryan Fraser fitness and offers Sean Longstaff and Paul Dummett future update

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe offered a cautious response when asked if Ryan Fraser would play again this season. The Scotland international winger pulled up against Wolverhampton Wanderers with a hamstring injury but is back on the grass at Benton.

But Howe is not sure whether he will be pushed to feature in any of the remaining fixtures. Newcastle face Liverpool this weekend before a tough trip to Man City, a home clash with Arsenal and a visit to Burnley at Turf Moor.

Howe said: "Ryan has been on the grass but he’s not trained. We’re taking it careful with him. Hamstring injuries can be difficult. Will he play again this season? I’m not sure at this moment in time. But it’s not a serious injury, it won’t keep him out too long."

Howe was also asked about the futures of Paul Dummett and Sean Longstaff - less than an hour after a new deal for Fabian Schar had signed an extension at St James' Park.

Reflecting on the fate of the two Geordie Academy products he said: "We've been talking with him and representatives for a while and we hope that we can reach a successful conclusion there. With Paul Dummett, we're keen for him to stay. Fingers crossed we can find a positive resolution."
