Eddie Howe reflects on 'intense' January transfer window, missed targets and 'cool customer' Bruno Guimaraes

Eddie Howe says the January transfer window was "intense" with the world watching Newcastle's every move.

The Magpies became the richest club in world football after the Saudi takeover on Tyneside, their new found wealth thrusting putting them under the microscope of international media.

Newcastle were linked with a number of superstars across the globe and Howe was pleased with how the window went.

Speaking to Andy Sixsmith of Premier League TV, Howe said: “It was intense! I was well aware the world was watching us - every move we made.

"It wasn’t a perfect month - we missed out on some things we wanted to do - but we got the main crux of what we wanted.

"There’s some great characters there.”

Newcastle brought in five new faces in the January transfer window, but their most exciting signing of the window is yet to start a game.

Bruno Guimaraes was on Juventus' and Arsenal's radar in the summer and once more in the January transfer window.

An Olympic gold medallist, big things are expected for the Brazilian midfielder who is one of the most exciting prospects in European football.

The 24-year-old has been made to bide his time at Newcastle, but fans are eagerly anticipating his dull debut.

“They can expect a very cool customer," said Howe.

"He sees things not many see on a pitch - but he’s a team player, works incredibly hard and he hasn’t come here for himself. He wants to help the team and the club.”
