Eddie Hearn sparring footage shows him dropping opponent

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn decided to enter the ring for a change and managed to drop Matchroom CEO Frank Smith in a sparring session.

It was clear to see he had fought before, showing some nice body punches and generally looking the part with his technique.

Prior to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s fight against Dmitry Bivol, Hearn faced off with Smith in the meantime.  

The chairman of Matchroom Sport was convincing in the ring, throwing several uppercuts which in the end proved too hot to handle for Smith.

Hearn said to ES News: “I did have a couple of amateur bouts; I was absolutely terrible. My friends used to call me ‘Hitman Hearn.’

“Don’t worry about calling me ‘Hitman’. Eddie Hearn is fine.”

It was clear to see who the winner would be from the get-go. From the eye test, Hearn looked in significantly better shape whilst also standing at 6’5. 

Hearn moved around the ring much more swiftly and had a game plan of getting Smith on the ropes at any given opportunity.

The Matchroom duo clinched quickly, with Smith evidently struggling early on, resting on the ropes. 

Despite the audience joking and laughing, Hearn had a look of seriousness on his face. He started unleashing numerous body shots which left Smith struggling on the ropes.

Body shot after body shot, Smith was struggling. It only took Hearn one more left hook to the stomach for his opponent to fold. 

Untested but wearied, Hearn acknowledged the crowd’s support alongside Smith.

Smith light-heartedly said: “Do you want to do another fight? Light work.”

Hearn has been a household name in boxing for a prolonged period and was the catalyst for the sport’s coverage in mainstream media, although he admitted he is looking to retire in the next 10 years.
