Eddie Dunbar ninth overall after 10th stage at Giro d'Italia

Ireland's Eddie Dunbar remains in the hunt for his stated target of a top 10 finish at the Giro d'Italia after Tuesday's tenth stage.

The Corkman finished 27th on a rain-soaked 196-km ride from Scandiano to Viareggio, which puts him ninth overall in the general classification, two minutes and 32 seconds off the lead held by Ineos Grenadiers' Geraint Thomas.

Ben Healy, who made a Grand Tour career breakthrough by winning stage eight on Saturday, was 105th on stage 10 and the EF Education-EasyPost rider finds himself well placed in fifth in the mountain classification, 12th in the points standings and 47th in the general classification.

The day belonged to Denmark's Magnus Cort who completed his Grand Tour Slam with a maiden Giro victory, out-sprinting Derek Gee and Alessandro de Marchi.

The trio held off a group that included Mark Cavendish to set up a three-way sprint, with Cort timing his move perfectly to take the win.

Cort has won two stages at the Tour de France and six at the Vuelta a Espana, and completed the Grand Tour stage sweep with his first Giro victory on his second appearance in the race.

Canada's Gee (Israel-PremierTech) and Italian De Marchi (Jayco-AlUla) finished second and third, respectively.

Thomas maintained his two-second lead over Primoz Roglic after both riders finished in the peloton, 51 seconds behind Cort.

The Welshman inherited the leader's maglia rosa jersey after pre-race favourite Remco Evenepoel had to withdraw after testing positive for Covid-19.
