Ebbsfleet United sign former Bournemouth and Aldershot defender Tyler Cordner on season-long loan from York City

Ebbsfleet have strengthened their defence by signing defender Tyler Cordner on a season-long loan deal.

The 25-year-old centre-back joins from National League rivals York City, having made a big-money move north from Aldershot last summer.

The former Bournemouth defender is no stranger to Stonebridge Road, though, having spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan with Ebbsfleet.

“It made it easier in my decision,” Cordner told FleetTV on his familiarity of the club. “I spoke to the manager (Danny Searle) and Anwar (Uddin, assistant) quite a lot through the summer and spoke about the ambition of the football club and it was something that really drove me into coming here.

“When I was younger the first thing I wanted to do was go on loan and play men’s football. I was a big centre-half at that stage so it was really (something) I wanted to do.

“I was disappointed I couldn’t stay on but it was a call by Bournemouth to take me back as I had clubs in the EFL interested which I had to go back for.”

Cordner’s career has also taken in Havant, Scunthorpe and Southend before a successful campaign with Aldershot saw him named player-of-the-year and captain England C.

“I’m still young, I’m only 25 but I’ve had a lot of experience so far, especially in this league and I’ve been in the EFL as well,” added Cordner.

“Hopefully that experience can help, I was here last time as a boy trying to learn my trade and I’ve been at this level ever since and a little bit higher so hopefully my experience can help.

“I haven’t probably lived up to the expectations that I should have done at York, I’m not afraid to say it hasn’t gone the way I wanted it to, and I’d be the first one to admit that.
