Ebbsfleet United pay HMRC debt after John O’Leary takes full control of the club

Ebbsfleet United have paid their outstanding tax bill - after a new owner took charge of the club.

The Fleet will now wait to find out if the National League have lifted their suspension after the club’s first three games of the season were postponed.

The league are due to meet to discuss the Fleet’s situation today (Wednesday).

The Fleet had been served with a second winding-up notice in recent months at the end of July due to monies owed to HMRC.

Ebbsfleet chief executive Damian Irvine confirmed that they had immediate debts of around £150,000 to settle.

A club statement confirmed those creditors have been paid after John O’Leary became the club’s new owner.

“Ebbsfleet United can today confirm that full transfer of control of the club to Mr. John O’Leary has been completed,” said the Fleet.

“Following the transfer of control, funds have been transferred to Ebbsfleet United FC to settle HMRC and football creditors.

“Mr O’Leary will make a more detailed statement and will be present at the club this week.

“A supporters’ meet and greet/Q&A will take place in the following weeks with further details to follow.”

Ebbsfleet are due to start their National League South campaign at home to AFC Totton this Saturday.
