Ebbsfleet United manager Dennis Kutrieb praises ‘humble and grounded’ new signing David Amoo, who started his career at Liverpool

Dennis Kutrieb has been struck by new signing David Amoo’s humility following his move to Ebbsfleet.

Winger Amoo, 32, arrives at Stonebridge Road with an impressive CV, having started his professional career at Liverpool.

He made his debut for the Reds in a Europa League qualifier under Roy Hodgson and also counts Preston, Tranmere, Carlisle, Cambridge and Port Vale among his ex-clubs, along with a spell at Scottish side Partick.

He finished last season at Crewe Alexandra, having started the campaign with a Stevenage side who would go on to win promotion to League 1.

“He hasn’t talked about his past,” said Fleet boss Kutrieb.

“I think he’s very humble. He’s not coming in telling everyone where he’s played and how good he was and what he can do, and all these things.

“Everyone who knows us, and knows me, knows we wouldn’t sign this sort of player.

“He’s very humble and grounded.

“He can be proud of what he’s done in football so far but he’s not finished, otherwise he wouldn’t be with us now.

“He still has a point to prove where he wants to show he is good enough to play and that’s the reason he’s with us and that’s the reason I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Kutrieb is unaware of any offers for Amoo to remain in the Football League but believes Ebbsfleet’s location, close to the player’s London home, helped get the deal done.

He was among the scorers as Fleet started pre-season with a 6-0 win at Punjab on Saturday morning and should get more minutes under his belt at Tonbridge tonight (7.45pm).

“Players aren’t talking too much in the beginning about what offers they’ve had, so I can’t tell you too much about what options he had on the table,” said Kutrieb.
