Ebbsfleet United manager Dennis Kutrieb reacts to 1-1 draw with Tonbridge Angels in National League South

Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb was frustrated his team were unable to kill the game off at Tonbridge on Saturday.

The Fleet led through Josh Wright’s first-half goal in National League South but were pegged back when Scott Wagstaff scored late on for Angels.

“I’m fuming to be honest,” stated Kutrieb. “We’re still unbeaten and that’s fine to come away with a point but it was very careless from us (not to) score from this many transitions a second goal, as 2-0 it was game over.

“You could see they were waiting for one set-piece, they had one extra shot and that’s it in the 90 minutes. We dominated them in the first half, very good. Second half we couldn’t score the goal and then they came (into it) more and more.

“I’m not happy just because we need to score the second goal and we had more than enough chances.”

Kutrieb felt his players needed to be more ruthless, not just in terms of shooting but also making the most of their breaks in the second half.

He reflected: “We had the chances. It’s not like we didn’t have the chances. I’m not worried as we had the chances to score a second goal.

“They’re a good side and are pushing hard for the play-offs. They came (at us because) they were thinking if we don’t take our chances then we can give it a go and maybe we have a chance.

“They put us under pressure, got a set-piece and we were not ruthless enough to defend that one. You can always concede a goal. It was just about us not scoring a second goal.

“It was not shooting missing, it was determination missing and putting the ball in the back of the net. If it needs to be a shot or a pass. Like (when) we scored our first goal, we can blame Omari Sterling-James for not shooting but he passed to Josh Wright, who hit the crossbar
