East Kilbride competing with Championship and League One clubs for signings, says boss Mick Kennedy

East Kilbride are competing with clubs in the Championship and League One for players this season, as the ambitious Lowland League side look to find a squad capable of taking them to the SPFL.

Boss Mick Kennedy says he will be adding several more signings to the 12 he has acquired so far, but he knows it won’t be straightforward to land all of his targets, with higher-ranking clubs looking for the same players.

He said: “We still have a few players we would like to bring in.

“We are quite far down the line with a couple of them, but the problem is, with the calibre of player we are trying to bring in, there is a lot of competition from the leagues above. We will see.

“We are talking about a couple in the Championship, League One, that sort of calibre.”

Asked how confident he was of landing his targets, he said: “I think we need to be confident with the environment we offer and the ambition within the club.

“These things can come down to small margins and players will always be wary of dropping down the levels.

“I think the thing is, I always like to work with players in the prime of their career. It is a bit easier to attract these guys when they are in the latter stages of their career - 34, 35 - but I don’t particularly like recruiting at that age bracket.

“The players we are speaking to are all in the peak years of their career, but they understand it is an ambitious project we want them to be part of.

“It will come down to small margins whether we get them or not.”
