Early hours power cut forces city centre hotel to close on Manchester's busiest weekend of the summer

An early hours power cut forced a city centre hotel to close on Manchester's busiest weekend of the summer. Native, which is based inside Ducie Street Warehouse, was hit by an electricity outage on Friday.

A spokesperson said the problem was caused by 'a fault within the national grid'. Guests in the award-winning hotel's 162 apartments were provided with alternative accommodation.

The power cut came as thousands of music-lovers visited Manchester for a series of big events over the weekend. More than 200,000 fans were in town over the weekend for four Ed Sheeran concerts at the Etihad, the Parklife festival in Heaton park, an Alicia Keys show at the AO Arena and a Killers gig at Old Trafford cricket ground.

In a statement a spokesperson for Native said: "On the evening of Friday, June 10 in the early hours of the morning our Manchester property experienced a full power outage that was caused by a fault within the national grid. This therefore meant that we had to re-house all our guests.

"The safety of our guests and our staff is our number one priority."
