E-scooter rider injured in Range Rover 'hit-and-run' in Ancoats

A young man riding an e-scooter was injured in a hit-and-run collision involving a Range Rover. Witnesses have told how he was 'left lying in the road' after the early morning collision in the Ancoats area of Manchester city centre.

Police said he was taken to hospital as a 'precaution' but confirmed his injuries were not serious. Councillors representing the area said they would be calling for urgent traffic calming measures as a result.

Police confirmed the car 'failed to stop at the scene'. Investigations are ongoing, said Greater Manchester Police.

The collision happened at 7.50am close to the junction of Murray Street and Jersey Street in Ancoats. Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

"I heard a bang looked up and saw black Range Rover driving off and a young lad in the road with his scooter," she said. "The Range Rover didn't stop and left the young man lying in the road."

Labour councillor for Ancoats and Beswick, Irene Robinson, said she was looking into introducing 'traffic calming' measures in the area.

"Incredibly sad to hear that someone has been hit by a car on the corner of Jersey and Murray street," she tweeted. Coun Robinson added she would be looking into traffic calming 'asap' together with her ward colleague, coun Majid Dar.

In a statement, GMP said: "We were called shortly before 7.50am to a report of a collision involving a car and an e-scooter close to the junction of Murray Street and Jersey Street, Manchester.

"The rider of the e-scooter was taken to hospital as a precaution – his injuries were thankfully
