Dylan Cheema wins Boxxer lightweight tournament after beating all three opponents

Dylan Cheema was the last man standing on Saturday night as he won the Boxxer lightweight tournament in Coventry.

In front of a lively crowd in the Midlands, fans were treated to an enthralling tournament from the quarters all the way through to the final showdown of the night. All eight men contributed greatly to the overall success of the event and in the end, it was Dylan Cheema – the hometown hero – who was crowned Boxxer Series lightweight champion.

He had to endure three tough bouts in order to win the £40,000 prize but if anything, that adversity makes his success all the more impressive. A TKO victory in the first round set him up for two successful decisions, showcasing just how good he can be under pressure.

The 25-year-old spoke with Sky Sports after the final to reflect on what he’d achieved, whilst also looking ahead to the future.

“Cream of the crop, this is absolutely fantastic.

“I owe it to every single person who’s turned out tonight because we came out to win. Respect to Rylan, he was really tough.

“This is the start. I’m ready for the bigger nights.

“I came into this tournament with two fights. I leave with five fights undefeated and one KO.

“I’ve got a good manager and a good team, and they’re going to guide me.”

As previously noted, the seven men that came up short were praised for the grit and determination they showcased throughout their stay in the tournament. Rylan Charlton, the runner-up, was particularly impressive as his toughness meshed together perfectly with the kind of gas tank most fighters could only dream of possessing.
