Dwayne Johnson: Nia Jax claims The Rock & family did not support her after WWE release

Towards the end of 2021, WWE made some major cuts as they rolled out their latest release lists.

A large amount of female wrestlers were let go from the company, including Eva Marie, Ember Moon, and Franky Monet.

Nia Jax was also listed among the departing stars, despite just getting into a feud with former tag team partner and friend Shayne Baszler.

Jax has recently been open to answering questions from both the media and fans regarding her time with WWE, all the way up until her release.

She recently appeared on the Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette podcast (h/t ewrestlingnews), where she revealed she did not have the backing of her family during the release, despite what many may think.

Jax hails from a respected family of professional wrestlers — the Anoa’i family. She is related to a number of well-known wrestling stars through the family tree, including Tamina, Roman Reigns, and Dwayne Johnson, who is her cousin.

“It was like, ‘Oh, she’s not going to lose her job because she’s related to Rock,'” Jax said. “You’ve got everybody under the sun ripping me to shreds with all that.

“It’s funny because it’s so far from the truth. So far from the truth.

“Vince [McMahon] didn’t have an issue. He knew, ‘sh*t happens, we’re going to make the best of it.’

“Whatever family members they thought supported me, were opposite, did not have my back.”

Jax, whose real name is Savelina Fanene, is the daughter of Joseph Fanene, the cousin of The Rock’s grandfather Peter Maivia.

Naomi is also part of the Anoa’i family by her marriage to Jimmy Uso, one half of the tag team duo The Usos.

“Trust me, I did not have any support with me in this business for a long time,” Jax continued. “It sucks because you’re family and it is what it is.
