Dutch GP: Kevin Magnussen excited to experience Zandvoort in F1 car for the first time

Kevin Magnussen says he can’t wait to drive an F1 car around Zandvoort for the first time this weekend.

The Dutch Grand Prix returned for the first time since the 1980s last year and was a roaring success, with good racing and a great atmosphere around the circuit and the seaside town.

Indeed, the entire F1 paddock is looking forward to being back there for another year and, for Magnussen, it’s a first opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car around the circuit, having been away from the grid in 2021.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, the Danish driver revealed how he has experienced the circuit before and always enjoyed driving it, and that the added thrill and power of an F1 car should only heighten the experience more:

“I drove around Zandvoort in Formula 3 and also before that in Formula Renault 2.0 and I’ve always loved the track. It’s changed a bit since I last drove there but from what I saw on TV, it still has the same sort of character and is still as exciting.

“Specifically for the VF-22, I don’t really know, but driving a Formula 1 car around there is going to be awesome. It’s one of those places from back in the seventies and eighties so you really will get a bit of nostalgia driving around there in a Formula 1 car. It’s going to be significant so I’m excited and looking forward to it.”

Haas will certainly be hoping to enjoy the weekend, too, as they look for a better result than last time out at Spa where the car simply did not enjoy the circuit.
