Live updates as Charles visits Wales for the first time as King

The King and Queen Consort travel to Wales today for the first time since the Queen died last Thursday. Preparations have been going on all week ahead of the much-anticipated visit and crowds are building across Cardiff.

The couple will attend a service of prayer and reflection at Llandaff Cathedral, before receiving condolences at the Welsh Parliament and meeting members of the Senedd. They will then travel to Cardiff Castle where Charles will hold a private audience with Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford and the presiding officer, before attending a reception hosted by the Welsh Government. You can see the full schedule for King Charles III's visit to Wales and how you can see him here.

Thousands of people gathered in Llandaff ahead of the King's arrival later this morning. The queue to enter Cardiff Castle is also growing with fans now stretching back to Queen Street. Our reporter John Jones spent the night outside the castle and was the first in the queue. You can follow his updates here.

A protest against the monarchy is also expected to take place outside the castle later this afternoon. You can read more about why they plan to protest here.

In London, mourners queued for a second night to see the Queen lying in state at Westminster Hall. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales will visit Army Training Centre Pirbright, in Surrey, to meet with troops from the Commonwealth who have been deployed to the UK to take part in the state funeral of Her Majesty The Queen.

Later today, the Vigil of the Princes takes place at Westminster Hall carried out by the Queen's four children (King, Princess Royal, Duke of York and Earl of Wessex).
