Dusan Vlahovic to Man United transfer pathway clears after Viktor Gyokeres bombshell
Manchester United have been handed a potential opening in their pursuit for a new striker this summer.
The Reds are in desperate need of a reliable goal-scorer up front next season after a meagre 44 goals in the top-flight last term. It represented United's worst tally in the Premier League era.
A long list of strikers have been linked with a move to M16; including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike. Any one of them would be an upgrade on the Reds' current options. But United have been handed an apparent blow in their pursuit for Gyokeres, with the Sporting CP striker said to have reached a "verbal agreement" with Premier League rivals Arsenal.
However, an alternative option in Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic may well now be easier to acquire after reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano that the Serie A giants have agreed a deal for Canadian striker Jonathan David.
With Randal Kolo Muani looking set to stay in Turin - and with Vlahovic only having a year left on his current deal - it looks likely that the Serbian will leave this summer.
United were credited with an interest in signing Vlahovic in January with The Gunners also linked at that stage. The 25-year-old scored as many goals (17) last season as United's current strike force put together, with Juventus asking for a reported fee of £35million for his services this summer.
The Reds have already been handed a clear indication, by the player himself, of what tactics best suit his style of play, which could end up being a message to United head coach Amorim.
"Yes I like to play with another striker on the side. I get on well, but this also depends on the coach," Vlahovic said in an interview with RSI in November, via Italian publication Calciomercato.
