Dundalk stress need for patience as interim duo stay on

Dundalk have confirmed the interim management team of Liam Burns and Brian Gartland will continue for this Friday's League of Ireland Men’s Premier Division clash with Sligo Rovers.

The Lilywhites are without a permanent fixture in the dugout after parting ways with Stephen O’Donnell last week.

The club have broadly commented on speculation linking various names with the role, with chief executive Peter Halpin stating "some of the names being mentioned are accurate, some are totally inaccurate and we have also had some expressions of interest from names that have not been mentioned anywhere".

Former Cliftonville boss Paddy McLaughlin, who served as assistant manager at Derry City, has been linked with the role, while former boss Vinny Perth is also currently available.

A requirement for managing in the Premier Division is a UEFA Pro Licence – which often creates difficulty in recruiting managers from abroad – particularly in England, as many do not necessitate such a qualification at Football League levels.

Dundalk failed to score once again as they slipped to a sixth loss in 10 matches on Monday against Bohemians.

With just three goals all season, Friday’s match in Sligo is important given the Bit O’ Red could be one of the sides they are competing with to avoid the drop.
