Dundalk owner Brian Ainscough concerned about ability to finish season, promises wage resolution

Dundalk FC owner Brian Ainscough has admitted that the club's ability to finish out the season is an "immediate concern" while stating that the delay in payment to players and staff is a temporary issue.

It had been reported earlier in the week that Ainscough was considering his future at Oriel Park having acquired the club last November, and the current owner said that he was chasing investment in what proved to be a grim update for supporters.

"There are a lot of reports out there that the club is experiencing financial difficulties. Unfortunately, those reports are true," a statement read.

"I was hoping to secure investment in August but, for various reasons, that did not come through.

"I am working hard to keep it going but my immediate concern now is that the club can carry on for the remainder of the season.

"I am actively seeking investment and I am exploring all possibilities about the ownership of the club to ensure that happens.

"I will continue to speak to any interested parties and I remain fully positive that we can secure the injection of cash that we need to keep us going."

Earlier this week, manager Jon Daly spoke about the lack of wages for players and staff.

"We were told it would be late but you’ll believe it when you see it," he said, with his side rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division table.

"It’s one of those that you just have to take people’s word on what they tell you. Fingers crossed, all going well, it happens and then the boys can do what they need to do.

"I think in any line of work, it’s the least you expect when you do your job - to get paid. It’s obviously very difficult but hopefully in the next couple of days that gets sorted."
