Dundalk and FAI promise action after racial abuse of Shamrock Rovers player outside Oriel Park

The Football Association of Ireland and the League of Ireland have said they are aware of an alleged racial abuse incident directed at a Shamrock Rovers player outside Oriel Park on Sunday.

The governing body say they condemn the racial slur by the Dundalk supporter in the "strongest possible terms".

The FAI and the League of Ireland are liaising with Dundalk as they await the conclusion of their investigation.

Dundalk beat Shamrock Rovers 1-0 in the FAI Cup yesterday.

In a statement, the Lilywhites said: "We have made contact with Shamrock Rovers and are currently investigating the incident. We would like to thank the Dundalk supporters who contacted the club quickly to report it. We have identified the individual involved and would encourage anyone with information to come forward."

The FAI have promised take further action.

Dundalk and the FAI have said they operate a zero tolerance policy against racial abuse.
