Dumbarton teen star Cian Newbury loving loan life at The Rock

Teenage star Cian Newbury says he’s happy to be Dumbarton’s odd-jobs man - as long as he’s playing every week.

The 18-year-old joined on loan from Hamilton Accies in January, and was thrown in for a first time debut just hours later against Peterhead.

And he hasn’t looked back since, becoming an ever-present for Stevie Farrell’s men at both centre-half and central midfield, including partnering his coach at Accies, Sean Crighton, at the heart of the defence.

“It’s been good to get out playing. It’s a fantastic squad to be part of and I’m really enjoying myself,” said Cian.

“Sean has helped me a lot on the park. But off the park he’s helped me to speak to all the new boys and things like that. I’ve known Sean for so long that it’s great to have him with me here at Dumbarton.”

And Cian insists he doesn’t mind where he plays, as long as he continues to be a fixture in the Sons side challenging for the playoffs.

He added: “I’ve no idea where my best position is to be honest. Wherever I’m asked to play I’ll do my best. It’s not up to me to decide where that is, it’s up to the gaffer.

“I’ll play anywhere for him and for the club.

“I can’t wait for the playoffs. I’m obviously still young so I’ve never experienced something like that and it’s something I’m really looking forward to.”
