Dumbarton's St Patrick's FPs set for West of Scotland Cup semi-final clash

St Patrick’s FPs have their sights set on securing a cup final place, as they face Shortlees in the semi-final of the West of Scotland Cup on Monday (April 24) at Hamilton Accies’ New Douglas Park.

Saints go into the semi final looking to make it to their third final in as many years.

However to get there they will have to overcome the holders Shortlees AFC who brushed Saints aside in the final last season.

Saints go into this game in good form and also on the back of probably the proudest day in their long history when they had four players representing the Scottish amateur international team.

Ian Paterson, Ryan McColl, Ciaran McElroy and Liam Rowan all played 90 minutes against Leinster.

Manager Johnny O’Brien said : “We will give Shortlees the respect they deserve but we will be our usual confident selves as we believe that on any given day against any opponent we can win the game and that is the message we will be drumming into our players .”

Coach Zander Diamond added: “We have our preparation for this week in place and by game time all 16 of our players will know their individual roles and also where they fit in to the team structure.

“We will be ready”, match secretary Tommy Graham said .

“Saturday was a proud day for our club, maybe even the proudest, with the four lads playing for their country.

“I believe that this team can stand up against the best teams that our club has had over the 70 years we have been in existence.

“But, and there’s always a but, they need to bring home the silverware. “

Kick off at New Douglas Park is 7.30pm.
