Dumbarton defender Sean Crighton hopes support can roar Sons to victory against table toppers

Dumbarton defender Sean Crighton has called on the Sons support to be their 12th man in this weekend’s top of the table clash with Stenhousemuir.

The Sons saw their game with Peterhead called off because of the bad weather last weekend, allowing the Warriors to open up a five point advantage at the top of the League Two table.

And now former Stenny captain Crighton hopes that the Sons faithful can help roar their side onto a vital victory this weekend.

He said: “Football is nothing without the fans. They pay their money to support their local team.

“They are so important. The Young Sons especially are absolutely fantastic, we hear their support.

“My message to the fans is to stick behind us, stick to what we’re trying to do.

“You can see there’s been a change in the style of play and I think the fans have enjoyed that. We’re trying to play a bit of football and we’ve got the players in the team to do that.

“My dad goes to every game and says the support has been great and that the football has been brilliant at times to watch.

“Hopefully we can get a right good turnout for what is a massive game. I know it’s only December, but it’s a massive game for us.

“League titles aren’t won in December, but it’s so important for us to pick up the points so that we’re going into the new year right in the race for the title. With the squad that we’ve got we definitely should be up there.”

Both sides go into the game on the back of five straight victories, with Sons’ 4-2 triumph at Ochilview in August the only defeat the visitors have suffered all season in the league - and Sean stressed that Stevie Farrell’s squad are focused on playing their own game.
