Dumbarton boss Farrell plays patience game as former Premier League striker signs up

Sons boss Stevie Farrell says he’s after a centre-back to complete his squad - after bringing a former English Premier League forward to The Rock.

The arrival of Swedish forward Joel Mumbongo from Hamilton Academical means Dumbarton currently have an 19 strong squad - which was bolstered at the weekend by academy youngsters Panos Grivas and Jacob Shields.

Mumbongo, 25, made appearances in the English top flight for Burnley, debuting against Chelsea in 2021 and also featuring against Manchester City.

Last season he joined Hamilton, but was loaned out to Queen of the South - netting five times in as many starts.

But he'll now move into part-time football at The Rock, with Farrell delighted to secure his man.

The boss said: "Joel is an excellent acquisition having needed another forward in the squad and he brings a lot of qualities with him.

“He has proven he can score goals at this level last season with Queen of the South and we’re hoping for more of the same in a Dumbarton jersey. "

And Faz admits he knows the area he has to strengthen ahead of the big league kick off next against Inverness Caledonian Thistle next weekend following the departure of vice-captain Sean Crighton.
