Dublin v Kerry player ratings: Paul Mannion the matchwinner

Dublin produced a big finish against Kerry as they were crowned All-Ireland champions for the 31st time.

Two injury-time points clinched a tense 1-15 to 1-13 victory at Croke Park and a record ninth All-Ireland medal for the Dublin trio of Stephen Cluxton, Michael Fitzsimons and captain James McCarthy.

Here is how we rated the players...

DUBLIN

Stephen Cluxton – 8

100% from kick-outs, the Dublin stopper also nonchalantly clipped over points at either end of the first half. His run of 13 clean sheets was ended but it was still a near-faultless performance from the stalwart.

Eoin Murchan – 7

Produced one big turnover on Stephen O’Brien during a first half where defences were on top, while a huge tackle on the hour mark denied Killian Spillane a shot at goal.

Michael Fitzsimons – 8

Was left on his backside by David Clifford during the first half, only for his team-mates to bail him out, but shaded an incredible battle with the Kerry captain and finished the stronger.

David Byrne – 6

Set the tone with a strong tackle on Paudie Clifford after the throw-in and mopped up breaking ball. Caught flat-footed for Kerry’s goal, he scrambled back onto the goalline but couldn’t prevent Paul Geaney from netting.

James McCarthy – 6

The history-making captain made some vital interventions, from breaking down kick-outs to winning back possession inside the Kerry half. Somehow escaped a yellow card until the 59th minute.

John Small – 7

Physical in defence and ever the willing runner, his pass set up Brian Fenton for a first-half point while he was prominent during Dublin's big finish.

Lee Gannon - 7

Snuffed out a couple of inside balls during the first half, and also produced a big tackle to dispossess opposite number Gavin White and launch
