Drug and cash haul uncovered after stop-and-search on 'suspicious man'

A haul of suspected class A drugs and cash was uncovered after police carried out a stop-and-search on a 'suspicious man' in Levenshulme.

Police said officers on patrol spotted the male 'acting suspiciously in an area where we have received reports of drug use and drug dealing' yesterday afternoon (Sunday). They carried out a stop-and-search and uncovered a quantity of suspected class A drugs.

The 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, GMP said in a post on social media. Police then carried out a search at his home and found a 'larger amount' of suspected drugs worth 'several thousands of pounds' in street value.

Cash was also discovered in the property and seized. The suspect was taken into custody for questioning by detectives.

The post on the GMP Levenshulme Facebook page last night said: "Neighbourhood Beat Officers on patrol in the Levenshulme area have this afternoon carried out a Stop & Search on a male acting suspiciously in an area where we have received reports of drug use and drug dealing.

"He was found to be in possession of a quantity of Class A drugs and was arrested for Possession of Class A Drugs with Intent to Supply. Following that a search of his home address was carried out where a larger amount of suspected Class A drugs was found.

"Early estimations suggest this has a street value of several thousands of pounds. A large quantity of cash was also found and has been seized. A 44 year old male remains in custody for questioning."
