Driver arrested for theft of car was also on police wanted list over alleged assault
The driver behind the wheel of a Lexus vehicle that was allegedly stolen in a robbery on Monday night turned out to be a person wanted by officers on suspicion of an earlier assault.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Traffic division said early on Tuesday morning that they tracked down the car to an industrial estate after it had been reported stolen during a robbery in Hyde. The car was contained at the industrial estate and the driver was arrested.
The motorist was also tested for alcohol and police said he was found to be over the legal drink drive limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. Following further inquiries, the officers disclosed that the driver was wanted on a separate assault matter.
In a message posted on Twitter at 3:08am on Tuesday, GMP Traffic stated: "This Lexus was stolen in a robbery in #Hyde earlier this evening. It was tracked to an industrial estate where it was contained by #RPU and the driver arrested. Also #arrested for drink driving and wanted for a separate assault matter."
