Drinks offer from Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell; Isthmian South East side enjoy wins against Haywards Heath and East Grinstead at Woodstock Park

Sittingbourne fans can enjoy free beer courtesy of the manager - if enough of them show up.

Brickies boss Ryan Maxwell - who is also the club’s director of football - hopes to get more fans through the turnstiles and while 5-0 wins like they enjoyed on Saturday will help, he’s willing to put his hand in his pocket, too, in a bid to encourage punters to Woodstock Park.

Prior to the weekend, Maxwell was ready to part with his cash if more than 350 turned up for their game against Haywards Heath. It was an ambitious target for a club that hadn’t won on home soil since August.

Half that number were there to witness a five-star performance and Maxwell knows it’s a work in progress at a club which he joined in early January, one who were already involved in a relegation scrap at the bottom end of Isthmian South East.

Results like Saturday will help on all fronts and they backed it up with another home win on Tuesday, beating East Grinstead Town 2-0.

“I had the money in my pocket and was ready to transfer it over the bar,” said the Brickies manager, speaking after Saturday’s win.

“It is one thing at a time. As director of football I have a duty of care to grow the club as best I can. I think, like anything in life, people attach themselves to things that are doing well.

“We needed some results. First of all we had to stem the tide and we have only conceded three goals in six games, we have done that and now we have added a nice result on Saturday.

“I am trying to get the punters back in the door but I must say the fans that are coming are exceptional, incredibly loud, great support and I am getting to know them individually. They know why I am here and I think they are appreciative of everything we are doing so far.
