'Dream come true' - Rob McElhenney's emotional message as Wrexham prepare to face Philadelphia Union II

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney shared an emotional message as the National League champions prepare to play in his home state for the very first time.

The Red Dragons will end their first ever pre-season tour of the US against Philadelphia Union II at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. It will bring to a close what has been, for the most part, a successful first trip to the United States for Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson's side began stateside with a 5-0 defeat to a strong Chelsea team. However, they hit their stride soon afterwards with back-to-back victories against LA Galaxy II and a youthful Manchester United.

Ahead of their last match of the tour, McElhenney took to Twitter to share what for him is a big highlight of Wrexham's first stateside trip. He wrote: "A dream comes true for me tomorrow.

"Thank you Wrexham, Philadelphia Union and the entire city of Brotherly Love. Wow."

One notable absentee for the clash in Chester is star striker Paul Mullin. The forward picked up an unfortunate injury during Wrexham's victory over United in the early hours of Thursday morning.

After the collision with goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, Mullin was left with a punctured lung. The 28-year-old is expected to miss the start of the League Two campaign which begins a week on Saturday with the Red Dragons hosting MK Dons at the Racecourse Ground.

While Parkinson earned criticism for his reaction to the challenge, co-owner Ryan Reynolds has reached out to Bishop after his public apology for Mullin's injury.
