Downs' Mokwena ready for MTN8 duel against SuperSport's 'very experienced' Hunt

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is laser-focused on the upcoming duel with SuperSport United counterpart Gavin Hunt in the MTN8 while keeping his cards to his chest about how his team is likely to line up at the weekend.

The game gets underway at 18:00 on Sunday.

"It promises to be a very interesting game. Of course, they also got that pedigree, we're well aware of that. They are a very good side with a very experienced coach. They don't give you a lot of big chances [so] it's going to be a very difficult match for us."

On his side's chances of victory, Mokwena went on to say: "The game belongs to the players and I'm sure we'll give a very good performance."

With local games swelling, it was suggested that squad players could get a chance on the weekend, however, Mokwena hinted at minimal rotation.

"Well, we don't know. We still need to tick the boxes, see the players training and see the level of readiness and to give them a debrief on how SuperSport play," he said.

"As soon as we know what's happening with that, we do an audit on injuries and the likes. We don't rotate any way, we try to put the best players on the pitch because we've got the responsibility of winning the match".

When asked about Hunt mentioning feeling "crippled" by the agreement between the two clubs regarding the three Sundowns players - Ricardo Goss, Grant Margerman and Thabang Sibanyoni - on loan at SuperSport, he indicated that it is difficult to sympathise.

"That is just how the deal was done, it's difficult to sympathise. I have very big respect for Gavin Hunt. But he's an old campaigner, very experienced campaigner who knows how to go around these things and he will have solutions for the predicament".
