Dover’s Moto2 Aspar Team racer Jake Dixon crashes out of MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez but vows to keep giving 100%

Dover’s Jake Dixon has vowed not to play it safe despite a points-ending crash at the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend - his second in as many races.

The Moto2 Aspar Team racer has endured a challenging 2024 so far after a heavy accident in Qatar practice left him on the sidelines until round three in Austin. There he failed to score points after he lost the bike fighting while fighting with the leading group and after qualifying third at Jerez he came off his Kalex just before the start-finish straight while seventh with 12 laps to go.

Returning to the track down the order, Dixon pulled into the pits on the last lap while 19th.

It wasn’t all bad news for the Aspar Team, Izan Guevara finishing 12th to score the team’s first Moto2 points, but Dixon left Spain disappointed - although he won’t change his style as he plays catch-up with the leading contenders.

“I have tried everything in the race,” he said on teamaspar.com.

“I was fighting with the front group, but I was struggling a lot. I just slid in the last corner and, unfortunately, I just go down - a similar crash to the one I had in Austin.

“No one is more frustrated than me at the moment. Not competing in two races and crashing in the other two is not what I expected. I am giving 100% on the bike.

“People could say that the important thing is to finish the race but, when you know you are capable of more and you try and you fight with the front group, you do not want to sit and watch around. This is not why I race. We need to work in the test to find something more.”

After testing this week in Jerez the championship continues at Le Mans for the French Grand Prix on May 10-12.
