Dover Athletic manager Andy Hessenthaler looks ahead to their National League match against Notts County at Crabble

Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler concedes he expects his side will be up against it again tonight when they welcome Notts County to Crabble.

National League basement boys Dover will be looking for a positive result after their 3-1 home defeat to Torquay on Saturday.

Whites have still won only once this term, and are five points away from wiping out the 12-point deduction handed out before a ball was kicked after the club decided not to complete the 2020/21 campaign.

In contrast, Notts County will start the day ninth, only a point outside the play-offs with at least one match in hand on the three teams above them.

They won 2-1 at FC Halifax last weekend to progress to the FA Trophy quarter-finals through goals from Ruben Rodrigues and Kairo Mitchell.

“They are in good form,” Hessenthaler said. “They made changes but won at the weekend at Halifax in the FA Trophy and you only need to look at their squad to see how strong they are.

“It’s another big ask for us. All I can ask is for the players to give maximum effort.

“Notts County will not be relishing coming to us on a Tuesday night, so we have got to make it difficult for them.

“We are hoping they have a bit of an off-day and we can take advantage of that.”

County head coach Ian Burchnall says his team would be "daft to underestimate" Dover.

In a press conference ahead of the game, he said: "I think Chesterfield drew down there.

"I think Wrexham won 1-0 in the 84th minute. They only lost 1-0 with 10 men away at Stockport the other week.
