Dortmund BLOW Bundesliga title chance as Bayern dominance continues on dramatic final day

Devastated Borussia Dortmund fluffed their lines with the trophy in their grasp, handing Bayern Munich an eleventh successive Bundesliga title.

Dortmund will never have a better chance to claim a first crown since Jurgen Klopp led Die Schwartzengelben to top spot back in 2012. But since then it's been a Bavarian procession with Bayern establishing a stranglehold at the top of the table under a succession of managers, including Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola and Julian Nagelsmann.

Last weekend's 3-1 home reverse to RB Leipzig handed Dortmund the chance to go top and put themselves in pole position heading into the final matchday of the season. They took full advantage by beating ten-man Augsburg 3-0 away from home to set up a decider at home to Mainz this afternoon.

But it all went wrong for Edin Terzic's men on a heartbreaking final day. Andre Hansche-Olsen got the nerves jangling after just 15 minutes, before panic set in after Karim Inisiwo doubled the lead after just 24 minutes. With Bayern winning 1-0 at Koln thanks to Kingsley Coman's early strike, it looked to be game over.

Raphael Guerrero gave Dortmund a lifeline with 20 minutes left, but they still needed another two to reclaim top spot. Incredibly, it looked like Bayern were going to let them off the hook when Dejan Ljubcic's penalty nine minutes from time squared things up and the dream was back on.

However, Jamal Musiala struck in the final minute of normal time to break Dortmund hearts and render Niklas Sule's last gasp equaliser irrelevant as a deathly hush enveloped Signal Iduna Park as it sunk in just what had happened.
