Donington BSB: Perie pips Kennedy in Supersport sprint

Bradley Perie brought Jack Kennedy’s 100% winning run in the British Supersport Championship to an end at Donington Park on Saturday evening with the Appleyard Macadam Yamaha rider coming out on top by just 0.094s.

The initial race was red flagged on the opening lap after Josh Day crashed in the middle of the pack leaving David Jones with nowhere to go and after a lengthy delay, it was just after 6.20pm when the race finally got underway.

When it did it was championship leader Kennedy (Mar-Train Yamaha) who led the field round at the end of lap one with Perie, Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Yamaha), Sam Munro, Harry Truelove and Jack Scott in hot pursuit.

The front three soon broke away and after four laps, they were covered by just half a second with new fourth place man Scott already more than two seconds adrift.

Kennedy and Perie were never more than two tenths of a second apart and their pace saw them pull away from Johnston who looked to be in a secure third. The battle for fourth continued to rage as Scott, Luke Stapleford and Truelove disputed the position.

Lap ten saw Perie briefly nose ahead at Redgate only for Kennedy to retaliate at the Old Hairpin and it all came down to the final lap, just 0.132s splitting them. Kennedy looked to have it covered but Perie had other ideas and got by at the final chicane to grab his first win of the season.

Further back, Johnston slipped back into the clutches of Truelove and Stapleford and it was Truelove who got the verdict for the final podium position. Stapleford took a close fifth with Scott finishing in a fine sixth, comfortably the best placed GP2 rider.

Munro took a season’s best seventh ahead of Jamie Perrin, Eugene McManus and Luke Jones.
