Donington BSB: Double Supersport success for Perie

Bradley Perie completed a double victory in the British Supersport Championship at Donington Park on Sunday with the Macadam Appleyard Yamaha rider just holding off Jack Kennedy (Mar-Train Yamaha) on the run to the chequered flag.

Perie grabbed the holeshot and led Kennedy by three quarters of a second at the end of lap one with Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki), Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha), Jack Scott (Kovara Projects/RS Racing) and Luke Jones (Highsparks Motorsport Ducati) in hot pursuit and the lead had crept up to more than a second next time around. Harry Truelove was now up to fifth though having overtaken both Scott and Jones on his Appleyard Yamaha. Kennedy wasn’t about to let Perie escape though and brought the gap down to 0.6s on lap three and that, in turn, meant the leading two riders had already broken away from the rest of the field, Stapleford now more than two seconds adrift in third. Going into lap six, Perie and Kennedy were separated by just 0.080s and it was Johnston who was now in third although Stapleford was still with him. Truelove and Jones were beginning to lose ground though. As expected, Perie and Kennedy were the class acts of the field and were consistently lapping more than half a second quicker than the rest of the field. They were never more than a tenth of a second apart although it was a reversal of Saturday’s race with Perie leading the way this time around. Further back, there was also little to choose between Johnston and Stapleford. At half race distance, Perie led by 0.135s and it was Stapleford back in third albeit more than eight seconds behind second placed Kennedy. Truelove remained in fifth but was doing his utmost to join the battle for third and, indeed, by lap 15
