"Don't feel like Everton regret it" – Journalist drops claim on failed January transfer decision

Everton won’t regret signing Dele Alli because he hasn’t cost them anything just yet, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 37-cap England midfielder made the permanent switch to Goodison Park on deadline day, but the eventual fee is based on performance-related add-ons.

Having made just 15 Premier League starts since the beginning of last season, Alli left Tottenham hoping to get his career back on track following a disappointing end to what proved a mainly successful six-and-a-half year stay in North London.

But Alli’s frustrations have continued since he made the move to Merseyside. He has played less than 200 minutes in his first seven league games and was left on the bench against Newcastle last week despite Frank Lampard’s side pushing for a late winner to boost their survival hopes.

They did find a late winner courtesy of Alex Iwobi’s last-gasp goal, but Alli was made to watch on from the bench.

To add to his frustrations, having played earlier in the competition for Spurs, Alli was cup tied for the Toffees’ recent FA Cup ties, which could have helped him get some valuable minutes in the tank.

Despite his uneventful start to life at Goodison Park, Jones doesn’t believe that Everton won’t regret signing him because they aren’t required to pay Tottenham £10m until he has made 20 appearances.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t feel like Everton will regret it because at the moment, he hasn’t cost anything. And the motivation for Dele Alli is to prove that he’s still the world class player he was.”
