Dominic Calvert-Lewin absence explained as Everton hit by new injury blow ahead of Liverpool

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be absent for between ten days and two weeks after picking up a small injury in Everton training this week. The striker was not named in the squad to face Leicester City on Wednesday evening.

The 25-year-old was in the side the last time the Blues were in action against Manchester United, and was expected to keep his place as he continues to chase his first goal of the calendar year.

However, when team news was announced before the visit of the Foxes, it was confirmed that Calvert-Lewin was absent.

Lampard later addressed the striker's situation, revealing that a small quadriceps issue was the problem.

He said: "Dominic felt a small sensation in his quad in training. We scanned it and it’s 10 days to two weeks, unfortunately, so we’ll miss him for these next couple of games, for sure. He’ll possibly be back for Chelsea."

As well as Wednesday evening's clash with Leicester City, he will miss the Merseyside Derby against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
