Domingos Quina makes fiery Barnsley claim ahead of Bristol City clash

Watford loanee Domingos Quina has claimed he isn’t just at Oakwell for regular game time – he wants to keep Barnsley in the Championship.

The 22-year-old has played nine times for the Tykes since joining them on loan for the remainder of the campaign in the January transfer window.

His loan move to the club follows a torrid time at Fulham in the first half of this season, where he quickly fell out of favour under Marco Silva, making just two league appearances for the Cottagers.

Speaking to Barnsley club media ahead of the Tuesday night clash with Bristol City – where he will face his former Watford boss Nigel Pearson – Quina reflected on the importance of playing regular football, but that he was not just there for game time.

“I think this is the most starts I’ve ever had in my career, so I’m really happy.” he told the Barnsley FC website.

“The club gave me a chance, the manager has belief in what I can do, I’m playing in a position where I can be the best version of me, so I’m enjoying my time here, definitely.

“But I don’t just come here for that, for me. I came here to play and to achieve something. I don’t want to just play and get relegated. I hate losing.

“But I feel like I’m playing well, the team are playing well, we’re definitely improving and there’s good spirit in the dressing room. None of us want to fail.

“I leave it all out there on the pitch, I want to keep us in the Championship.”

Barnsley currently sit 22nd in the Championship after picking up a point at home to Fulham on Saturday.

That leaves the Tykes four points from safety, but it could have been an even smaller gap if it wasn’t for Harry Wilson’s equaliser late on in the match.
