Dominant Derry book FAI Cup final spot as Treaty fairytale comes to an end
Derry City booked their place in the Extra.ie FAI Cup final after deservedly seeing off Treaty United in front of a packed Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
Although the scoreline suggests a close encounter, in truth Ruaidhri Higgins' side missed a host of clear-cut chances and Treaty 'keeper Jack Brady made a string of saves, but credit must go to the First Division men who never gave up as their fairytale run in the cup came to an end.
Before the game, the Brandywell observed a minute's silence after a wreath laying ceremony in memory of the victims of the Creeslough tragedy.
Derry got off to the perfect start as they took the lead in the eighth minutes as Jamie McGonigle made no mistake from close range after Patrick McEleney's sublime skill saw him create the opening.
Derry City take the lead. Jamie McGonigle finishes off a good team move, but the Treaty defending is poor.
