Domenico Tedesco sacked by RB Leipzig as Celtic's Group F rivals put former Parkhead defender in charge

RB Leipzig have sacked head coach Domenico Tedesco after Celtic ’s Group F rivals were hammered at home by Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Bundesliga outfit lost 4-1 at home to the displaced Ukrainian club, who will take on Ange Postecgolou’ s side in Warsaw next Wednesday on matchday two. Former Parkhead flop Marian Shved was at the double in Germany, opening the scoring for Shakhtar before adding a second on 58 minutes just after the hosts had equalised. Mykhalo Mudryk Lassina Traore added two more before full-time as Igor Jovicevic’s team fired a warning that they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

The result saw Tedesco sacked this morning. RB face a crucial Champions League double header against the Hoops next month after their trip to the Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid next week. But the Italian-German won't be in the dugout across from either Carlo Ancelotti or Postecoglou after being relieved of his duties.

Tedesco was out-thought by Giovanni van Bronckhorst last season as Rangers knocked his side out of the Europa League semi-finals. Angelino’s goal gave Leipzig a narrow 1-0 lead from the first leg. But they were turned over at Ibrox as the Light Blues ran out 3-1 winners to book their spot in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

And last night’s defeat proved one Euro failure too many for Tedesco. Former Celtic full-back Andreas Hinkel has been placed in temporary charge alongside fellow coach Max Urwantschky.

A club statement read: "RB Leipzig have parted company with Domenico Tedesco with immediate effect. Assistant coaches Andreas Hinkel and Max Urwantschky have also left the club. RB Leipzig will announce his successor in due course."
