'Doctors said my boy had a virus. I never thought it would be this'

When Jozef Burch suddenly fell ill out of nowhere, doctors told his worried family he probably had a virus.

The eight-year-old was suffering from tiredness while also experiencing sickness and a high temperature.

Jozef, from the Tyldesley area of Wigan, was kept off school while his mum Marta booked him an appointment with a GP.

There, the medic said the youngster was suffering from a virus and he would likely get better with time.

And while Jozef’s condition did see an improvement, he worsened two days later when he vomited at school.

The following two weeks saw his family go to and from their GP practice where they were repeatedly told Jozef had a viral illness.

But they decided to take Jozef to A&E one night when he suddenly began shivering, prompting Marta to call 111.

“He got really shivery,” the mum-of-three told the Manchester Evening News. “I rang 111 and they told me to go to the walk-in centre. The doctor sent us straight to A&E.”

Jozef underwent some blood tests before being told he likely had a chest infection. The youngster was given some antibiotics and sent home with his family.

He saw his condition improve before it worsened again, forcing the family to return to hospital. “It was like a rollercoaster,” holistic coach Marta added. “He got slightly better and crashed again.

“We went back to hospital and did more bloods and they started scratching their heads.”

With no test results revealing why Jozef was unwell, the schoolboy was kept on the ward while doctors tried to pinpoint the reason for his sickness.
