Diversion to be put in place at major junction due to emergency work

A lane is to be closed and a diversion put in place at one of Stockport's busiest junctions after a gas leak. Engineers are closing one lane of the A560 Gatley Road in Cheadle, at its junction with the A34 Kingsway as they carry out emergency work to fix a leaking pipe.

It will come into force on Sunday (Aiugust 13) and last for a week. During the closure, drivers heading from the direction of Cheadle towards Gatley will not be able to turn left onto Kingsway or go straight over.

Instead, they will have to follow a short diversion down Wilmslow Road, Schools Hill, and Kingsway instead. Bosses at gas company Cadent admit the closure is 'not ideal' but say it is necessary to enable a swift and safe repair

No properties' gas supplies will be affected by the work.

Cadent Network Supervisor Trevor Hague said, “We have been working with local stakeholders to ensure the necessary work is carried out safely. Whilst a lane closure may not ideal, it will ensure that we can safely and quickly repair the pipe at this junction.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete this emergency work.”
