'Directly from Yasir Al-Rumayyan' - Journalist believes NUFC man would love 'marquee name'

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on The Done Deal Show that Yasir Al-Rumayyan wishes to bring a ‘marquee name’ like Gareth Bale to Newcastle United – but there is little substance to the rumours of a switch to Tyneside for the Welshman.

Bale is currently on the lookout for a new club having run down his previous deal with La Liga giants Real Madrid, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Getafe appearing to be potential destinations for the 32-year-old.

According to freelance journalist Sean Casey, Bale has already spent some time on Tyneside ahead of a potential move, which would certainly be a big-name signing that would likely grab the attention of many clubs in England and across Europe.

However, although Jacobs believes Newcastle chairman Al-Rumayyan would love to bring a player like Bale to Tyneside, there has been no approach at this moment in time.

He said: “Really, the link between Bale and Newcastle comes directly from Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the Newcastle United chairman, who enjoyed watching Bale at Real Madrid and would like a marquee name, but there’s nothing much to that and Newcastle haven’t made any active approaches.”

Bale has enjoyed a very successful career, managing to lift 20 pieces of silverware including five Champions League trophies, but none of that appears to have gone to his head, with Casey recently claiming (30:00) that he read something from Jose Mourinho about how good the winger was in and around the dressing room during his recent loan spell at Spurs.
