Diogo Dalot gives verdict on Aaron Wan-Bissaka battle at Manchester United

Diogo Dalot has welcomed the competition for places that has been generated at Manchester United this season, insisting it is "for the greater good of the team."

After making just seven appearances for United this term up until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure in November, the Portuguese star has become a more familiar face in the starting line-up under Ralf Rangnick. He has made 13 appearances in the German's first 19 games in charge and has produced some solid performances.

Dalot has been battling it out with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back berth and they have each nailed down the position from time-to-time, although Rangnick has not been afraid to rotate in recent weeks.

But even though Dalot has ambitions to make the position his own between now and the end of the campaign, the Portugal international has admitted that he relishes the level of competition for places. He believes it has helped jolt him back into his best form.

"Competition only brings you good things," Dalot admitted, speaking to UEFA.com. "Whether it's that you need to push a little more so you can play or whether it's that you're playing and you cannot stop because you have someone that wants to take your place.

"At the end of the day, if that competition is healthy and for the greater good of the team, everybody's going to win.

"I can understand that sometimes when players are not playing, they feel down or they're not so good in training, and I've been there, I've felt it as well.
