Dimitar Berbatov reins in Angeball hype as Tottenham hero warns Postecoglou disciples 'we've been here before'

Dimitar Berbatov is delighted Spurs fans have "their Tottenham back" under Ange for now - but has warned his old club against getting too carried away.

Postecoglou has overseen a formidable start since leaving Celtic for a crack at the Premier League as they've taken ten points from 12 in the Premier League. Angeball has been a striking counterpoint to the pragmatism exhibited under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, and fans were roaring 'we've got our Tottenham back' from the terraces as they ran out 5-2 winners over Burnley at the weekend.

It's been a breath of fresh air but Berbatov, who scored 42 goals in 107 appearances for them in the days of Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp, warns they have been here before only to ultimately end in failure. He told the US Sun: "We had this start before when Tottenham was in and around first place and all of a sudden a drop in form. So I sincerely hope that's not going to be the case this year.

"If we leave Spurs out of the spotlight a bit and not put too much expectation on them, I think they'll perform better. Just leave them be and they will play better. With a new coach who is flowing and playing attacking football - the fans were singing the other day 'We have our Tottenham back' - which is great to hear. You want to have entertaining football, but still get the points."

It echoes what former Arsenal rival Theo Walcott said on Sky Sports, cheekily warning Spurs they haven't played a "proper team" yet. Spurs have beaten Manchester United, Bournemouth and Burnley since their opening day draw with Brentford and exited the EFL Cup on penalties to Fulham.
