Digne, Nakamba, Douglas Luiz - Aston Villa team news update ahead of Arsenal

Steven Gerrard will be without three first-team players for this lunchtime's showdown with Arsenal. Lucas Digne is out with a hamstring injury while Kortney Hause and Marvelous Nakamba are also sidelined with respective abdominal and knee issues.

Gerrard, 41, is hopeful of having all three back for the Wolves fixture at Molineux after the international break on Saturday, April 2. Experienced campaigner Ashley Young is the favourite to come in for Digne later - as he did when he replaced the Frenchman at West Ham last weekend. Douglas Luiz and Calum Chambers are, however, both fine after both being stitched up following nasty challenges from Manuel Lanzini and Craig Dawson at the London Stadium.

On Villa's team news, Gerrard said: "Lucas Digne will miss the game. He's nursing a hamstring issue. I don’t think the issue is too big, so he won’t be out for too long.

"He’ll join up and be assessed by France, having been called up. I think he’ll be a big doubt for the first game and an outside chance for their second game on March 29 against South Africa. He’ll obviously miss Arsenal for us.

"Marvelous Nakamba will be in full training for us after the international break, which is positive. He’s not too far away and he’ll do certain sessions with our Under-23 group next week.

We’ll integrate him into the first team set-up. That’s good news for us. Kortney Hause has got an abdominal issue and he’ll be missing tomorrow as well."
