“Didn’t work out” – Cardiff City fan pundit relays assessment of struggling 31-year-old

Cardiff City‘s FLW fan pundit, Ben Johnsey, has been discussing James Collins’ lack of impact with the Bluebirds this season, claiming that the forward doesn’t fit Steve Morison’s system. 

It was Mick McCarthy that picked up the Republic of Ireland international last summer, signing Collins on a free transfer from Luton Town.

Collins, 31, had struck 24 goals in the Championship across two seasons with Luton and looked a fairly steady pick-up for Cardiff, who handed him a contract until 2023.

However, Collins’ signing simply hasn’t worked out and he’s managed only 13 Championship starts and three goals, with Morison taking the side in a different direction.

“James Collins,” FLW fan pundit, Ben, responded as he discussed the club’s ‘flop of the season’.

“I was quite optimistic when he first came in, he’d scored no less than 10 Championship goals in 2-3 years, he looked a really good pick-up.

“There were red flags in the fact that some Luton Town fans had said he hadn’t quite been playing for them towards the end of the season, but at first we thought it was going to be a great signing.

“In the first couple of games you were still optimistic because he played quite well and it just went down hill from there.

“Game after game went by without him scoring and it just didn’t work out.

“He’s not a bad player and he’s a player that I respect because he always tried his hardest when he was on the pitch. The couple of goals he did score, you can see how much it meant to him, but in reality, it just didn’t work out
