Diallang Jaiyesimi lands unanimous Rangers red card verdict but John Lundstram 'ankle breaker' sparks ref VAR inquiry

Baffled James McFadden reckons VAR should not have to get involved for challenges like the horror lunge from St Johnstone star Diallang Jaiyesimi on John Lundstram to be punished.

The Rangers star was forced off at half-time following the red card flash point. The Perth Saints attacker received the ball in the final third before letting it roll to the feet of the Ibrox midfielder, and while attempting to claim back the ball caught Lundstram on the ankle - leaving the Englishman writhing in pain on the ground.

Referee Alan Muir would initially show a yellow card to the St Johnstone man but was then sent to review the incident at the monitor by the VAR team - with Jaiyesimi then being sent off. Speaking to BBC Sportscene, McFadden admitted the bit of confusion over the incident was that the red card was not pulled out initially. He said: "It was a red card. It did, but quite rightly it was a red card."

And speaking on Rangers TV, Alan Hutton slammed Jaiyesimi over the heavy tackle: “This is an ankle breaker for me. He has taken a bad touch and tried to make up for it, and he has compounded that with a huge error. When you see it again from a different ankle he could break his ankle. You are lucky he (Lundstram) got up
