Dez Bryant Lost $30k Because Alabama Upset UNC

Dez Bryant was the biggest loser of the Alabama-UNC Sweet 16 matchup last night, and it wasn't close.

To be clear, the Tar Heels took this loss hard. North Carolina coach Hubert Davis, guards RJ Davis and Vormac Ryan, and power forward Armando Bacot looked like zombies in their postgame press conference. Like most of America, they could not believe that the Crimson Tide managed to come from behind to win 89-87 in an instant classic.

Tar Heel fans were also at a complete loss as well that the No. 1 seed in the West region fell to Alabama.

Chapel Hill is going to be full of heartbreak for a while.

But Bryant has more reason than most to shed a few tears after North Carolina’s unexpected exit.

It’s not because the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver played at UNC in college (he went to Oklahoma State). The reason for his disappointment was that Bryant was so confident UNC could win, he put the money where his mouth was.

Like, a lot of money.

As part of a two-game parlay, Bryant put down $30,000 on Illinois and UNC winning their respective Sweet 16 matchups. The Fighting Illini took care of their end of the deal by defeating the Iowa State Cyclones, 72-69. Had the Tar Heels won, Bryant would have won $62,250.

But alas, the madness of March struck again, and cost him $30k - and someone else a pretty nice speaker.

No sports bets are safe, especially in March Madness. Bryant had to learn that the hard way.

Even so, he didn't take the loss too hard. He congratulated Alabama and Clemson (who also won their game) even though they cost him a lot of dough.

Bryant certainly kept it classy. but I'm sure he would have like to hit that parlay.
